[The Anchor Drop Newsletter] What Would I Tell Myself/How To Celebrate Mom
Published over 1 year ago • 4 min read
What Would I Tell Myself, The New College Grad
First, take a breath. You’ve just endured everything that comes with the end of senior year – papers, exams, applying to jobs, maybe interviews, parties, etc. – it’s a lot. Take it all in, your world will completely turn on its head.
You’ve existed in a familiar, controlled environment. You’re comfortable – get ready to get uncomfortable. The real world's a trip. You think you’ve been in the “real” world away from home and “living on your own” - you have no idea what’s about to greet you.
It's ok that you’re graduating without a job – don’t panic. You'll find your niche. Moving back home won’t kill you. Try things. Take the job you aren’t sure about – and quit that job because your gut was right, it did really suck! Don’t settle.
Lean into your creativity – it will serve you well. Don’t wait to make a career out of creativity. Don’t drift away from it. Hold it close and nurture it, it'll be a life raft and a safe place to land. Share that creativity with others – they'll love it.
You will find your people – you did it in college, and you’ll do it again. Make time for them and care for them. Some will stay with you forever, and some will only be around for a short time, but you will learn from all of them. Enjoy your time on this earth – it's short in the grand scheme of things, and it moves so fast. Appreciate the small stuff and celebrate both the big and small wins.
Above all else, come back to that creative life after all is said and done. After you’ve done “all the right things,” make sure to find yourself again in the art.
If you had the chance to go back, what would you tell yourself, the graduate? I would love to hear your thoughts. Give it a try, it’s a remarkably enlightening and cathartic exercise!
How To Celebrate Mom
Mother's Day can be a touchy subject, especially for those whose mom has passed away or those who are struggling with infertility. It can be a rough day. But, it can also be a day to celebrate those people in your life who have taken on the role of mom for someone without one or who are great moms in their own right. It's an opportunity to step outside our own struggles and shine a light on someone not considered a traditional mom, but who deserves to be celebrated.
The celebrations don't have to be grand gestures, in fact, the simpler and more heartfelt the better. Just an acknowledgment that they are seen and appreciated.
A few thoughtful and personal ideas to celebrate the "moms" in your life:
Invite her cook a celebratory dinner with you. Shared time in the kitchen with a glass of your favorite beverage and some laughs is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Gift her a relaxation moment - a basket with a candle in her favorite scent, her favorite tea, a pretty new tea cup, a good book and her favorite snack.
Gift her a new journal, but fill the first few pages with a note from you detailing things that she does that you admire or aspire to do.
Gift her some pretty greeting cards with pre-stamped and pre-addressed envelopes with her favorite people's addresses. That way she will always be ready to send a note to those she loves.
Simple and personal gifts or experiences will be appreciated long after the day is gone. And if you can build new memories along the way? Well, that's even better!
Quote Of The Week
"Embrace the uncertainty. Some of the most beautiful chapters of our lives won't have a title until much later." - Bob Goff

Have an opinion about any of the cards you've purchase from me? You would make my day if you would send me a review. Your review can help others who are on the fence about making that first purchase. A few quick and easy ways to accomplish this:

Didn't set up an account yet? You can still do that now, even if it's been a while since you made your purchase. Your account will automatically link to your purchase through the email you used with your purchase.
3. Don't want to put it on the website yourself? No problem, you can email your review to gail@anchorandinks.com and I will add it to the website.
Thank you so much for supporting my small business and for helping others to make an informed purchase!
If you haven't made a purchase yet, I would love to hear from you too! What's holding you back? Is there something you need that I don't yet have in the Shop? Send an email to gail@anchorandinks.com and tell me all about it.

Sharing Makes You Vulnerable Sharing unlocks a new level of vulnerability. It is truly terrifying for me to put my work out into the world and sharing it on social media is that next level terrifying. Wading through that vulnerability can be draining. I am a private person and VERY few people truly KNOW me. I don't overshare, I curate what I allow people to know. That's not a malicious act, I have no intention of manipulating anyone, it's an act of self-preservation. I was born with the...
Snail Mail? Really?? Some may say that sending actual mail is for old people. It’s outdated. It’s not worth it. WHAT??!! Have you ever seen the reaction of someone who just pulled happy mail out of their mailbox instead of bills, junk or yet another flyer from the HOA? That’s priceless! I’ve never met anyone who hates getting happy mail, just sayin’. Prove me wrong. It’s a fast-paced tech-obsessed, disposable world. Often harsh, unfeeling, and impersonal. Do you end your day feeling a bit out...
Finally, Sending Cards and Letters Is Cool Again! Truth be told, sending cards and letters was never really uncool, it was mostly relegated to sending birthday cards, but for some it was forgotten altogether and replaced with tech. I am so excited that the trend is swinging back towards all things analog. Yes, digital has its advantages, but there is NOTHING that compares to a hand written note from someone who cares enough to spend a little extra time and effort on you. Finally, the analog...
